Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of conversation map education based on empowerment theory in patients with chronic heart failure. Methods Patients of chronic heart failure with first treatment admitted to Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Jiangyin City from May 2014 to April 2016 were enrolled. Totals of 61 patients from May 2014 to April 2015 were as control group, and 63 patients from May 2015 to April 2016 were as observation group. Self efficacy, treatment compliance and quality of life of patients were compared between the two groups after education. Results The degree of changes in ten dimensions of movement scope, disease information, getting help, communication with physicians, general disease control, doing housework, social entertainments, symptom management, management of rapid breathing, depression control in the observation group were all higher than those in the control group (t=4.584, 5.675, 4.779, 4.168, 3.978, 3.768, 3.878, 3.478, 3.375, 3.964; P<0.01) . The scores of seven dimensions in medication adherence, timely reviews, reasonable rest, reasonable diet, reasonable exercise, infection prevention, abstain from tobacco and drink and the total score in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (t=6.042, 6.924, 5.825, 5.034, 6.552, 5.614, 4.635, 5.824; P<0.01) . Besides, the improvement of physiological function, mental function, social function, health self-awareness ability and the total score of quality of life in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (t=5.725, 4.735, 4.742, 4.332, 3.823; P<0.01) . Conclusions Conversation map education based on empowerment theory can improve self efficacy of patients with chronic heart failure, enhance the self-management level and the ability to persisting in health behavior and improve treatment compliance of patients.
