Abstract

ObjectiveTo observe the preventive effect of new mouthwash on experimental dental caries and gingivitis in SD rats. Materials and Methods1. The animal model of dental caries was established and evaluated according to the classical Keyes scoring method.2.After the animal model of gingivitis was established, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels were measured and superoxide dismutase inhibition (SOD) and peroxidase activity (CAT) were evaluated. Results1.Caries group: the Keyes scoring results showed that the number of surface caries and the E and DS grade caries in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). 2.Gingivitis group:After treatment, significantly decreased salivary AST values were observed in the experimental group compared to the negative control group (P< 0.05). Both the experimental and positive control groups showed greater inhibition of SOD and CAT activity compared to the negative control group (P<0.05). ConclusionThe new mouthwash has a preventive and therapeutic effect on experimental caries and gingivitis in SD rats.
