Abstract

Facing the difficulties of conducting face-to-face class and assessment, education institutions have to use online learning and assessment tools in times of crisis. In this paper, we explore the use of education technology for online learning and assessment in times of crisis. First, we examine the use of online learning and teaching tools by administrators, teachers, and students. Although there are security issues associated with online learning tools, the benefits of online learning include feasibility, flexibility, and accessibility. Second, we compare twelve proctoring systems for online assessment. Third, we present a basic evaluation framework for proctoring systems and propose some factors for consideration when choosing them. Last, we recommend a mixed set of options in using proctoring systems. The education technology promotes education institutions to take action effectively and maximizes students’ learning outcomes.
