Abstract

This introduction outlines the publishing objectives of the Journal of Gulf Studies, emphasizing the invitation for contributions on Gulf studies in an interdisciplinary context. It emphasizes how the journal seeks to go beyond traditional analysis of the Gulf region and its interactions with the wider Middle East and global community. It also underscores how the journal endeavours to create a unique academic platform that matches the growing developments in the Gulf, as well as the growing interest in the region. Lastly, the introduction outlines the articles in the inaugural issue ranging from such topics as the Gulf foreign policies, Gulf studies in India, the historical role of scent and perfumery and finally education in the Gulf.
