Abstract
Abstract Edge waves have been reported to pose a threat of inundation to lowland coasts. To illustrate main features of edge waves generated by external forces, we consider two simple examples: landslides moving in the cross-shore direction, and moving atmospheric disturbances parallel to the shoreline. The derivation of a linear shallow water edge wave subject to external force and numerical results are both presented.
