Abstract

This essay comments on Philip Kozel's analysis in Market Sense of the large, important body of stories told by economists about the role of market forces in molding economic activity in humanity's best interests. It points out that economists’ narratives with respect to free-market globalization are elite narratives oriented toward shaping elite opinion. As such, they are instrumental in promoting class-specific beliefs and identities, an influence to which more attention should be paid.
