Abstract

Background: The decline in exclusive breastfeeding coverage of 32% in 2018 needs concern from all sectors. The practice of early initiation breastfeeding (EIBF) needs to be increased because it is associated with the success of exclusive breastfeeding. EIBF rate in Tangerang City in 2020 is 30,6% far below the 2018 national rate (58,2%), even though EIBF can prevent infant mortality by 22% .
Objective: The study aims to analyse the factors associated with EIBF practice among postpartum mothers in Tangerang City.
Method: The research was conducted using a cross-sectional study design with a quantitative analysis approach. A total of 84 post-partum mothers involved as respondents who were taken using purposive sampling technique. Data were analysed using chi- square test statistic.
Result: : Age, education, occupation, history of covid 19, knowledge, health worker support and health services are factors that are significantly related. Logistic regression test showed that the dominant factor associated with EIBF practice was health worker support factor (p value = 0.013, Exp (B)=25.73 CI: 1,996-332,245).
Conclusion: The role of health care worker and provider in supporting EIBF practices should be encouraged by strengthening the implementation of the baby-friendly hospital policy and the 10 steps to successful breastfeeding.
