Abstract

Every year many forest fires have occurred in Japan and have caused heavy damages to the precious natural environment. Therefore, the authors are developing a system to predict the fire occurrence and fire development in forests. For forest fire mitigation purposes, it is important to examine how such fires develop in the forests. The purpose of this study is to investigate the method to simulate fundamental forest fires and we performed the CFD simulations about the fire development from the macroscopic viewpoint in an extensive domain and also the microscopic viewpoint of each tree ignited by fallen leaves in forests.
