Abstract

The problem of discipline in classrooms is a substantial element of everyday school life. It affects in equal ways both teachers and students and is an important factor affecting not only the effectiveness of teaching, but also the atmosphere in a classroom. The article shows the results of a research conducted among 529 elementary school teachers from podkarpackie voivodship. A diagnostic poll and a questionnaire were used as a method of research. The results have shown, that problems with discipline in schools are a common occurrence. Questioned teachers declared, that they handle them well using various methods, and with the help of fellow teachers, management and parents. Methods of discipline were also addressed as well as the causes of discipline issues as identified by the teachers.
