Abstract
When torsional and shearing dynamic loads act on an irregular cross-section rod, it is difficult to find the stresses in the rod. This paper is concerned with a method for solving stress problems of an arbitrary cross-section straight rod subjected to a general coupled load of torsional, shearing and bending impacts. In the analysis, to satisfy the boundary conditions, the Fourier expansion collocation procedure which has been developed in the author's previous reports has been utilized. Expressions for obtaining stresses in the rod are given for general cross section rods. Comparison between the present results and exact ones shows very good agreements for some typical cases.
