Abstract

This paper deals with an interpretation in a comparative mode of one of the poems belonging to the second section of Poet in New York, involving the concept of grief which comes from psychoanalysis and the series of etchings by Otto Dix entitled Der Krieg (“The War”). In addition, it explores Federico García Lorca’s religious imagery through his intertextual links with Biblical texts, as well as the thematic convergences with German Expressionist poetry and with other narratives related to the First World War such as E. M. Remarque’s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front (1929), read by Lorca during his stay in New York.
