Abstract
This paper describes the strong and sustained growth in natural gas vehicles (NGV), focusing on the dual-fuelled diesel engine concept and how this system has and will meet the needs of the heavy-duty transport sector. Significant development in gas extraction, delivery, engine and vehicle technology are discussed. Detailed information relating to dual-fuel IC engine strategies for US2010 and Euro VI are presented and discussed. The paper gives a clear overview of the global NGV scene and explains how dual-fuel technology offers a pragmatic and attractive solution to the heavy transport sector in its adoption of natural gas as a road-fuel.
