Abstract

This article introduces the reader to the very first complete edition and translation of Nietzsche’s poems. The hitherto published editions are in fact mere anthologies. Many of his poetical works, especially his Juvenilia, are not included in these collections, and yet they bear testimony to a primary stratum of his imagination and consequently help us to explore his use of metaphor in his thinking. This edition of the poems, which tries to be faithful to their original form, aims at shedding new light on Nietzsche’s body of work by giving his poetry a central position within his philosophical writings.
