Abstract

This article aims to present reflections on how Portuguese has been addresses in selection processes that are specific for forced migrants in federal institutions of higher education in Brazil. It is an excerpt of a broader research in which the linguistic rights of these subjects, regarding their access to the social right to education in Brazil, were investigated. For this work, we bring the analysis of institutional documents - edicts, dispatches and resolutions - of selection processes of two federal universities for admission in the first semester of 2018: Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) and Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). The analyses indicate that the tension between recognition and erasure of linguistic rights of forced migrants is constitutive of the language policies adopted by those university institutions for the access and permanence of these subjects in the public higher educational system.
