Abstract
Summary In this paper the differential algebraic (DA) method is applied to analyze the electron optical properties of monopole, dipole, and quadrupole lenses. The DA results are all in excellent agreement with those calculated through the analytical expressions. From the theoretical point of view, some of Crewe's conclusions are only good approximations.
