Abstract
Dialyzable Leukocyte Extracts (DLE) have in vitro antigen-independent immunorestorative properties. For instance, addition of DLE allows theophillinized lymphocytes that cannot undergo rosetting to rapidly reacquire their red-cell receptors and undergo E-rosette formation. The evolution of lung cancer and of some recurrent bronchitis is often associated with a low E-rosette count. Sequential administration of DLE induces variations of E rosette counts in such patients. DLE treatment activity varies from patient to patient or even for one patient from treatment to treatment. In a study described in the chapter, DLE activity disappeared with metastasis evolution, except in one case. A new bifocal cancer was noticed for one of the patients even when E-rosette rate was high. In that patient, T lymphocytes at that time were mostly OKT 8. The efficacy of DLE treatment can be diminished by serum factors that inhibit cell-mediated immunity. Similar findings are noticed in chronic bronchitis patients except that the effect of DLE treatment is more constant.
