Abstract

Based on studies that approach issues related to public green areas, the research deals with the interrelations between the individual and the environment – specifically, squares. Thus, the research aims at analyzing the perception of squares’ goers in the small town Mambore-PR. In order to accomplish the goals, questionnaires were applied to users of three squares placed in the city’s central area, and another one placed in one of the city’s housing. Visits in loco were also necessary, and direct observation to verify the different uses and functions of such spaces. In face of the context, it was noticed that the squares analyzed present several deficiencies in infrastructure and lack of attractiveness for the population, which end up looking for more attractive spaces. It was also noticed that the deficiencies in the management of these spaces may cause deviation of the goers. Therefore, a new planning of Mambore’s squares is required. There is a need of requalifying them, to turn them into more attractive spaces for the citizens.
