Abstract

Abstract A widened mediastinum is frequently mentioned in the context of potential aortic injury, particularly in cases of blunt trauma. The primary purpose of this systematic meta-analysis is to assess the diagnostic value of mediastinal width on chest x-rays as marker of traumatic aortic injury (TAI) in adult trauma patients. The secondary research question is the frequency of other injuries, besides BTAI, associated with a widened mediastinum on chest X-ray in adults with blunt trauma.
