Abstract

The case shows how information system can be used as a strategic tool in making a non-government organization (NGO) more efficient and effective. The case also focuses on using information system to reduce cost of operation and thereby passing on the benefit to the poor and needy people in the form of reduced lending rate. As a result, the case also discusses how effective implementation of IS can help NGOs to use inclusive technology at reduced cost to reach more people in economic way. Apart from Information Strategy course, the case can be taught in Financial Management, MIS courses as well as in Management Development Programmes (where senior executives from microfinance would be the target audience), workshops held for executives in NGOs, and in training sessions for capacity building in development areas.
