Developments in automatic ndt for special iron castings for motor vehicles

Abstract

The author describes a number of applications of automatic ndt in use at the Fiat Foundry. Though the methods themselves are well known and fully proven, it is of interest to consider the reasons behind their selection in order to apply them to each type of casting and the associated production processes. The author also expounds some sorting techniques applicable to malleable and nodular iron, where the most difficult problems arise in trying to automate ndt procedures that have hitherto been regarded as manual operations of a highly subjective nature
