Abstract
Drilling activity decreased significantly throughout the CSD Districts covered by this report. Total number of wells drilled in Arkansas decreased 26.2%, in North Louisiana 8.9%, and in East Texas 22.2%. Exploratory drilling resulted in a success of 12.4% in Arkansas, 12.6% in North Louisiana, and 13.2% in East Texas. The most important exploration and development activity in South Arkansas was within the Smackover limestone trend. In East Texas, the most interest was created by the discovery of several deeper pay zones on the Van structure in Van Zandt County. Drilling for Wilcox production in Concordia, LaSalle, Catahoula, and Winn Parishes accounted for 27% of the development wells and 47% of the exploratory wells drilled in North Louisiana.
