Abstract
The article examines the phenomenon of the emergence and development of mentoring. The development stages, the place and role of mentoring in pedagogy and education are analyzed. In the Russian Empire, the institution of classroom mentoring took shape in the second half of the 19th century, when it was secured by law. The practice of mentoring became widespread in the United States of America as part of social work with children in the early 20th century. The main characteristics of mentoring are presented. In its most general form, mentoring can be defined as a way of transferring knowledge, skills and attitudes from a more experienced person to a less experienced one. Based on the analysis of open literature sources describing the phenomenon of “mentoring”, as well as the experience of implementing mentoring activities in professional educational organizations, the problems of the development of the Institute of Mentoring have been ________________________ © МедведевЯ.В.,2021 identified.
