Abstract

The article deals with the urgent issue of building an information and analytical system that is to be used for solving strategic and operational problems of logistics, which retail and wholesale trade companies are facing currently. The problems of logistics arise in the companies that have significant nomenclature of goods and materials in the conditions of uncertain demand. The diversity in «behavior» patterns of material objects requires the use of numerous models for inventory management within a single system. It is concluded, that this approach cannot be implemented in practice in spite of the high level of scientific elaboration that calculation methods show. The article considers the possibility to select and implement the management model, which fits in with the characteristic features of logistic process in the company and ensures its effective performance through modern information technologies. The authors propose an approach, which allows reducing the dimension of variety of inventory management models given the acceptable level of their generality without decreasing the effectiveness of the results. The text also provides the conceptual provisions for the information system development, which ensure the inventory management models implementation.
