Abstract

A kind of plasma display panel with a carbon nanotube (CNT) field-emission layer on the dielectric layer of the front panel was proposed and a prototype was prepared with the CNT layer fabricated by an electrophoretic deposition technique. The CNT layer was designed at the middle of an ITO electrode by a 2D fluid simulation, and the bus electrode with the same width was aligned with the CNT layer which can avoid obscuring the emanating visible light from phosphor. The effective CNT pretreatment, and uniform and thickness distribution of CNTs in the layer resulted in the excellent field-emission properties of the CNT layer. The minimum sustaining voltages were decreased by 30–40 V with the used CNT layer being underneath the MgO layer in a series of discharge testing.
