Abstract

This study presents the design of a laboratory-scale model of wind turbine, which is developed to emulate the operations of wind energy conversion systems and so serves as a facility for demonstrating such systems. Software component of the emulator is developed on the computer aided design platform of the real time digital simulator and, interfaced with a direct current motor that drives a directly connected wound rotor induction generator. A performance evaluation shows that the emulator adequately captures and represents the dynamic response of real wind turbines, and so could serve as a test bed for demonstrating and validating wind energy conversion systems.
