Abstract
Wind energy is one of the renewable energies sources which can be utilized in Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS) to generate electrical power. The output power of wind turbines is determined by aerodynamic forces created by the interaction between the wind and the rotor blades to convert the kinetic energy of the wind into useful mechanical energy. This paper represents a design and modeling of horizontal blade turbine, which is achieved by using SOLIDWORKS program. A detailed mathematical model of a Squirrel-Cage Induction Generator (SCIG) coupled to wind turbine system using vector control computing technique is also done. The performance of WECS is studied using simulation developed in MATLAB/SIMULINK.
