Abstract

Statement of the problem. The problem of searching for new ways of developing the domestic architecture in interior design in modern conditions is explored. Results. It is noted that moving away from the Russian market of Western European furniture stores and glossy magazines has brought to the surface a serious issue of losing a unique style, individuality and an artistic approach. Designers and architects in this country in the last decades have got used to working guided by foreign approaches, borrowing ideas and solutions. With no foreign materials, furniture items being available, this approach has puzzled a lot of specialists in the industry. Conclusions. The current «isolation» from the foreign market opens up new opportunities for Russian designers and architects related to searching for their own style employing domestic production and materials. Therefore it is of particular interest to investigate the architecture and interiors of the Soviet era which due to the political circumstance at the time were centred around the domestic production of not only construction materials but also artistic monumental pieces.
