Abstract
The multi-modal and dispersive nature of Lamb waves can make interpreting the signal difficult and restrict its application in non-destructive testing. Single-mode Lamb waves can significantly reduce signal complexity and enhance detection capabilities. To excite and amplify the single-mode S0 wave, a dual-row linear Halbach (DHB) electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) is proposed, building upon the linear Halbach array, the traditional EMAT and the periodic permanent magnet (PPM) EMAT. Finite element models are established, comparing the magnetic flux density and signal intensity of several EMATs mentioned in the paper. Both the simulation and experimental results show that the DHB EMAT can suppress the A0 wave and enhance the S0 wave. In the experiment, compared with the traditional EMAT serving as the transmitter and receiver, when the DHB electromagnetic acoustic transducer is employed as the transmitter and receiver, the S0 wave signal is increased 27.36 times and the A0 wave becomes imperceptible.
