Abstract
The extensive demand of the public for “self-learning” has been promoted in the knowledge economy era. Considering this demand, shared space construction for social and cultural service facilities such as libraries has been developing rapidly. In this paper, an intelligent environmental control system is designed to improve environmental comfort and satisfy demands for energy conservation and carbon emission reduction in shared learning spaces. Through a survey and an analysis of indoor environments and users’ behaviors in several shared learning spaces in Guangdong Province, this paper explores individuals’ levels of satisfaction with various indoor environmental factors and their demands for regulation. The control mode, environmental monitoring equipment and environment control equipment were designed to implement an intelligent control system design concept under “people-oriented” comfort demands. Upon the completion of its design, an intelligent control system was installed in the shared learning area of a school for demonstration and application. The system operated well and was highly evaluated by both teachers and students.
