Abstract

A novel differential-fed wide-beam dielectric resonator (DR) antenna (DRA) is proposed in this paper. The DRA is comprised of a substrate with a metal ground, a cross-shaped DR with a cave filled by a rectangular DR of higher relative permittivity and a parasitic ring above the DRs. The cross-shaped DR is excited by a pair of differential coaxial probes. Besides, the parasitic ring could widen the vertical half power beamwidth (HPBW) and decrease the backlobe radiation. As the results of simulation, the impedance bandwidth ( $\vert \mathrm{S}_{\mathrm{dd}}11\vert ) of the DRA is from 8.48 to 8.98 GHz. The simulated vertical HPBW of ${xoz}$ -plane is above 130° (at 8.56-8.82 GHz) while that of ${yoz}$ -plane is larger than 136° (at 8.66-8.82 GHz).
