Abstract

Partial discharge (PD) diagnosis in power apparatus is needed to minimize the insulation failure. It consist of PD detection, PD measurement, PD signal processing, and PD judgment systems. Time-frequency domain transformation and signal filterring are basic components in PD signal processing. PD signal transformation from the time domain to the frequency domain or vice versa may be conducted by several methods such as Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), and Inverse Fast Fourier transform (IFFT). FFT of PD in time domain provides PD frequency spectrum. PD dominant frequency may be observed in PD frequency spectrum. Signal processing using signal filtering may separate PD signals and noise. It may also separate the PD signals below and above the PD dominant frequency or certain setting frequency. This paper deals with the design, implementation, and testing of partial discharge (PD) signal processing system. The system is designed to perform PD signal processing such as high pass filter (HPF), low pass filter (LPF), band pass filter (BPF), FFT, and IFFT.
