Abstract

Abstract Electrochemical grinding (ECG) is a useful non-conventional hybrid machining process which combines features of conventional grinding and electrochemical machining (ECM) and employed for machining a difficult-to-machine alloys and thermally sensitive parts. The cause for such a combination and the development of a hybrid machining process is mainly to make consume of the combined advantages and to avoid or reduce some adverse effects that the constituent processes produce when they are individually applied. Moreover, the present need of processing super alloys and hard materials with high surface finish as well as with stress and crack free surface required by industries is demanding for the import of ECG machine. The present work was aimed to design and develop an effective and economical setup of ECG and to conduct experiments on Aluminium workpiece. The present developed ECG setup has proven to be successful for machining of hard to machine materials. Moreover, it has been observed that the copper bonded metallic wheel is mainly responsible for higher value of MRR.
