Abstract

CMOS scaling is currently facing a technological barrier and research needed to find possible alteration of CMOS Technology to continue the pace of Moore's law and at the same time researches around the world, involved in finding a disruptive technology to replace CMOS. Single-electronics is a nano-electronic disruptive technology which is built on the capability to control and do useful work with individual electrons. A standard transistor (MOSFET) in the latest CMOS technology uses thousands of electrons at any given moment in its on state. Single-electronics harbours therefore the promise of ultra-low power electronics and further miniaturization. This paper deals with a detailed study of SET device, its characteristics and circuits implementation in comparison to CMOS device. The SET device is used to implement the Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) and using the SET based QCA cell, many other logic gates and circuits are simulated. The simulation results are shown. The paper will implementing a 4 input Look Up Table (LUT basic unit of FPGA) using SET based QCA and CMOS technology to demonstrate the implementation of complex circuits with the QCA technology.
