Abstract
One million samples may be needed to develop useful genetic predictors for treatment responses and differential diagnosis in depression. The UK Biobank (UKB) is a unique resource with very broad phenotyping across physical traits that is being expanded to include psychiatry (on >250K) with CIDI based mental health questionnaire and neuroimaging (on 100K). We are studying depression and anxiety in UKB using the new mental health questionnaire and available brief phenotyping data. This presents an opportunity to enlarge the sample size for depression GWAS by >150K cases. I will present preliminary analyses of the depression phenotypes in the UKB 500K GWAS data using the new mental health questionnaire data and the brief phenotyping available.
