Abstract

A method has been developed for the chemical deposition of thin films of CdS and CdSe on glass substrate. For CdS deposition, a triethanolamine complex of cadmium ions, ammonia and thiourea solutions were used, while for CdSe films, sodium selenosulfate solution replaced thiourea, other reagents remaining unchanged. Variation of thickness with different bath parameters have been studied to obtain thickest deposition possible. X-ray characterization, optical absorption and photoconductivity measurements have been performed to confirm the deposition of CdS and CdSe. Triethanolamine has been found to be a useful complexing agent for the deposition of chalcogenide thin films.
