Abstract
Implementation of e-governance in India would prove to be one of the most important citizen welfare initiatives taken in the history, as it has the potential to be a very effective platform of interaction between the central government, state governments and citizens. India has been lagging in the implementation of e-governance processes in comparison to other countries. Thus, there is a need to monitor the operational reforms that are being implemented by GOI in this direction and the changes that are taking place due to e-governance. Therefore, the purpose is to measure the extent of e-governance implementation. Moreover, the level of awareness about the e-governance initiatives among the citizens is also analysed. Data were collected from 100 respondents through non-probabilistic convenience sampling with the help of a structured questionnaire. Collected data were analysed for possible inferences using statistical software such as IBM SPSS and Microsoft Excel. The findings showed that citizens think that government should invest more on e-governance initiatives, but that should be done only after completing other, more important investment projects that directly affect their life. Therefore, it is recommended to use newspaper as a preferred awareness medium and provide for educational reforms and computer literacy in order to increase the usage of e-governance initiatives. Government should integrate e-governance services into existing programs for citizen welfare. Collaboration could also be established with IT training agencies to develop appropriate programs at appropriate costs. With the help of this research, the e-governance initiatives undertaken by the government are studied and probed and significant recommendations for the stakeholders.
