Abstract
Background: Local delivery of drugs is an effective way to reach efficient concentration without general toxicity. With advances of gene therapy the need for implantable local delivery scaffolds is growing rapidly. Chitosan is an inexpensive material with many valuable features for developing biomedical applications. It is biocompatible, biodegradable, easy modifiable, and positively charged.
