Abstract
ABSTRACT Across the world and fueled by climate change, natural disasters are increasing in their geographic distribution and intensity. The purpose of this study was to use theory, including the heuristic-systematic model, to inform how decision aids may influence persuasion about hurricane preparedness. Results indicate that decision aid selection can serve as a behavioral outcome of systematic information processing and amplify attitude and behavior change effects beyond systematic processing alone. Overall, results suggest that exposure to decision aids can facilitate persuasion about hurricane preparedness.
