Abstract
Advanced fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) composites are increasingly being used in weight sensitive structural applications due to their high stiffness/weight ratio. Here, we highlight another property of these materials which is equally desirable in such applications, namely their potential for vibration damping, and show the factors effecting the damping in FRP composites. It is also shown that the damping properties of FRP composites can be readily predicted.
