Abstract

ABSTRACT AGRICULTURAL fields, on which the construction of high voltage transmission lines took place, were examined for soil compaction damage. Soil density measurements were made over fields of sand and clay, and compared to the results of static laboratory compres-sion tests on samples taken from the field. Yield measurements were conducted on hay and oat crops in two soil types, and their spatial variations were cor-related to areas of compaction damage in the fields. The results indicate the crop losses which can be expected from comparable construction traffic and the ways in which these losses might be reduced.
