Abstract

A thermal model has been developed to predict the temperature when machining with nearly-sharp tool. The analytical model incorporates Waldorf's slip-line field model with the method of extended Jaeger's moving heat source to produce a cutting thermal model with round edge tool. The results and comparisons indicate that model accuracy could be improved by considering the non-uniform primary heat source and the interaction of secondary and tertiary heat sources.
