Abstract

AbstractAdvanced information systems are becoming a critical factor for hospitals to meet internal needs and external demands. This article reviews the current approaches for usage of hospital information systems, and presents the results of a 1983 survey which examines the actual state of use in an urban area. Data show that most of the hospitals have a management information system with a few planning management science and decision support capability. However, there seems to be a lag between examples in the literature and common practice.
