Abstract

Objective To investigate the current situation of nursing graduates' competency in colleges and provide references for carrying out competency based nursing education and talent training reform. Methods A stratified cluster sampling was adopted to select newly nursing graduates from June to July 2017. They were investigated using nursing graduate competency self-assessment questionnaire. Results The average competency score of 3 247 nursing graduates was (3.07±0.64) . Single-child, class cadre, professional attitude, skill training during the internship, employment intention, work readiness, school quality, economic region and geographical distribution of schools were influencing factors of the competency of nursing graduates (P<0.05) . Conclusions The competency of nursing graduates is at a medium high level. However, the competency of nursing students in western provinces and private colleges should be improved, and colleges and universities should strengthen competency based talent cultivation and teaching reform research.
