Abstract
At the end of the Bone and Joint Decade (2000-2010) it is evident that both biologists and orthopaedic surgeons have been highly motivated to develop and introduce new treatment options for musculoskeletal disorders. During the last years, especially regenerative treatment options have been developed for clinical application such as tissue engineering, cell and gene therapy or implant coatings. The validation of these new techniques regarding efficiency and patients´ safety is still not completed. Therefore the executive committee of this symposium presents a scientific program entailing cutting-edge research completed by state of the artreviews in regenerative orthopaedics. The program continues to show an excellent mixture of basic research, presented on the initial day of the meeting and clinical application of innovative treatment strategies on the second day.
