Abstract

In India, the aged population is growing quickly, which suggests that a growing number of people have demands for financial support and care that are more specialized. The present study shows the occupation, assistance in the domestic chores of the family and problems perceived related to different aspect in day-to-day life by the geriatrics. The cross-cultural study was conducted in Haryana state (Mewat and Bagad zones). The results indicated that in District Nuh, majority of the geriatrics (55.0%) had low family educational status while in Hisar half of the geriatrics (50.0%) had medium family educational status. In Nuh grocery items were mostly purchased by geriatrics (WMS-2.16) with rank I while in Hisar, bringing milk was the most performed among the domestic chores (WMS-1.78) with rank I. In both the districts, most of the geriatrics living alone or with spouse and living with children faced many problems related to food, clothing, sanitation, shelter, health, social, financial andother problems.
