Abstract

Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease that may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract. The disease can have a considerable impact on the adolescent's physical, psychological and social development, all of which need to be considered when supporting children and adolescents at diagnosis and throughout the disease pathway. Michelle Ellis and Angela Cole outline the condition, incidence, diagnosis, symptomology, investigations and management of the disease in children and adolescents. The impact on adolescent development and transition from child or adolescent to adult care is also discussed.
