Abstract

The Coulomb enhancement factors of the optical absorption in semiconductors with a nonparabolic band structure are obtained. It is shown that the nonparabolicity increases the role of the residual electron-hole interaction in both the intrinsic and the laser-excited material. A necessity for correcting the calculated nonlinear refractive index due to excitonic effects is found even in the smallest band gap III-V semiconductor InSb.
