Abstract

Abstract Dark fire-cured tobacco ‘T-911’ was transplanted on June 6. The two Furadan treatments were applied as a broadcast and tilled to a depth of 4 to 6 inches one day prior to transplanting. All other treatments were applied using 2.5 gal compressed air sprayers at 20 gal/acre. Portable CO2 tanks supplied a constant sprayer tank pressure of 30 psi. Spray treatments were applied on 7 or 14-day schedules for a total of 10 or 5 applications, respectively, beginning June 18. Plots were 20 ft long, 3 rows wide. Rows were spaced 42 inch apart. Plants were spaced 36 inches witfiin rows. Four randomized complete blocks were separated by 4 ft alleys. Flea beetle damage was evaluated as feeding holes per leaf. Counts were made on the fifth leaf of width greater than 2 inches from the top of the plant. Results in the data table are averages of bi-weekly 40-leaf counts, beginning July 1 and ending August 22. Aphid damage ratings ranged from 0 (no evident infestation) to 5 (heavy infestation with severe necrosis of lower leaf bases). Ratings in the data table, made September 7, are averages for 52 plants. The ‘T-911’ tobacco was grown on Sango silt loam.
