His research interests include wage and income inequality, economic development, and comparative and historical sociology.Elizabeth Hirsh is associate professor of sociology and Canada Research Chair in Inequality and Law at the University of British Columbia. Her other research investigates occupational heterogeneity in the gender wage gap and how stereotypes of Asian men and women across different locations in the income distribution affect their labor market outcomes.John R. Logan is professor of sociology at Brown University. Among his major research projects is an intensive study of residential segregation and neighborhood change during the urban transition of 1880–1940, based on 100% mapped geocoded census data for major cities.Matthew J. Martinez is a research analyst at Rice University. Currently his research focuses on historic individual outcomes of students in a large urban area in 1930–40 using a variety of data sources, including the 100% geocoded census data. In addition, he participates in numerous projects investigating the root causes of educational attainment gaps for students in Houston, Texas.
