Abstract

This report proposes a method that can divide the body region into characteristic elements without any model of link parameters or shape based on the distribution of high-curvature points of the object's contour in the video sequence. The shape model of human body can be generated from the decomposed result, and it can be used for handling more general body motion analysis. Experiment results of analyzing the kip motion under real environment show that the proposed method can divide the body into characteristic elements and can find postures of the body from the video sequence (the hierarchical part decomposition method). Although, a non-branched object was assumed, the proposed method can be extended to analyze more general human body motion because branched object can be decomposed into non-branched elements The experimental results showed that the Hierarchical Part Decomposition Method (HPD) could divide a human body into link elements from the selected frames, and the postures of each element were found by fitting the generated shape model.
